St. Louis Rams defensive end Chris Long spent part of his morning at Becky David elementary school in St. Charles encouraging students to exercise. For one special third grader, Long's visit was about a lot more than physical fitness. A black limousine arrives at Becky David Elementary School. When the driver opens the door, Rams's defensive end Chris Long and third grader Alec Medley step out amid a crowd of waiting students and administrators. They headed to the principal's office were Chris signed some Rams sports gear.
Alec was excited to talk about what happened in the limo during the ride from his home to school.
"We had a water chugging contest and we just chilled, something like that," says Alec.
There's controversy over who actually won that contest. Alec accuses Chris of cheating.
Long says, "There's always going to be controversy. I won fair and square. I even gave him a head start."
But there's no confusion over the reason Chris is here. Alec was the winner of the NFL take a Player To School sweepstakes. When he shared the exciting news with classmates they didn't believe him until mom stepped in.
"They said, yeah right and stuff. My mom came in first and told us it was like now they started believing me," says Alec.
There's no question the students are believers now. Donning twin jerseys, Alec introduces his NFL friend to the crowd.
Long encouraged students to exercise an hour a day as part of the NFL's Play 60 program.
"Whatever you do, just be outside running around play tag for 60 minutes. Run around get your exercise."
It's a lesson well learned. |
