Over the course of his career as an amateur fighter, trainer, and commentator Teddy Atlas has established himself as one of the most recognizable figures in boxing. Serving as an analyst for ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights since 1998, Atlas is known for bringing a combination of unparalleled expertise and candor to his audience. Atlas also works as a commentator for NBC, having announced Olympic boxing matches since 2000. Before joining ESPN, Atlas worked for Showtime, HBO, and ABC’s Worldwide of Sports productions. In 2001 Atlas won the Sam Taub award, presented by the International Boxing Hall of Fame for broadcasting excellence.

Atlas’ pugilistic career began under the tutelage of reputed trainer Gus D’Amato of the Catskill Boxing Club. Here he first boxed at the amateur level, then became a trainer. Successfully navigating this transition, Atlas went on to manage some of the biggest names in boxing over the last several decades. Aside from developing the legendary Mike Tyson in his early years Atlas has also guided the likes of two time heavyweight champion Michael Moorer, featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, light heavyweight champion Donny LaLonde, welterweight champion Simon Brown, heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs and welterweight champion Wilfredo Benitez. He’s also helped train the 1980 Swedish Olympic Team. Atlas’ visible personality and impressive resume as a boxing professional have helped him become one of the most identifiable faces in the sport.

On top of his work in the world of boxing Atlas devotes much of his time to the Dr. Theodore A. Atlas Foundation, which he founded in the name of his late father. This foundation provides financial and legal assistance those in need and seeks to honor the memory of Dr. Theodore Atlas, who devoted his life to providing medical care to the less fortunate regardless of their financial limitations.

Atlas has appeared in several movies and has also choreographed fights in film and television. He has also written an autobiography entitled Atlas: From the Streets to the Ring: A Son's Struggle to Become a Man chronicling his upbringing and life in boxing. Additionally Atlas has worked with the New York Jets to teach them boxing conditioning and hand fighting techniques.

A native of Staten Island, Atlas has a wife, Elaine, and children, Nicole and Teddy.
